Who may legally inject Botox in Texas
Injecting a prescription medicine such as Botox for cosmetic reasons is the practice of medicine in Texas. The Texas Medical Board keeps its rules on nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedures at 22 Texas Administrative Code §§169.25 to 169.29, which replaced the board’s older rule at §193.17 in 2025.
§169.25 treats “the injection of medication or substances for cosmetic purposes” as an act a physician may delegate and supervise, and that delegation has to satisfy section 157.001 of the Texas Occupations Code. What that means for you as a patient: a physician, or a physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse acting under a physician’s delegation, has to establish the relationship with you, keep your medical record, and tell you who is actually going to perform the injection and what their credentials are, before it happens.
A 2025 bill that would have tightened who may inject, Senate Bill 378, was vetoed and did not become law, so the board’s delegation rules above are still what governs.
